Theophil Dan was born into a Romanian-Hungarian family with great musical tradition. He began studying in his hometown conservatory and continued at the Berlin University of Arts from which he graduated in 2014. His further studies led him to University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna studying viola and finally at the University for Music And Performing Arts Graz.
Theophil has been a grant recipient of the Ad Infinitum Foundation Germany and participated numerous masterclasses and festivals. He is active member of several ensembles and chamber music groups like TrioDan, Ensemble Polysono Berlin, as well as substituting opera and symphony orchestras.
In addition to his international chamber music and orchestral performance, Theophil’s teaching methods has granted him a popular reputation as pedagogue. He teaches violin and viola at the Freie Musikschule Berlin aswell as at the Akademie für Musik Berlin. Furthermore at OrkesterEfterskolen and Holstebro Musikskole, Denmark.

CD productions
one of Bach’s top masterworks are the Goldberg Variations composed for harpsichord alone. Being able to arrange and record this wonderful music with my siblings was undoubtedly a milestone moment!

Being a teacher I have noticed several of my students developing back pain whilst playing. Being familiar with the hardship and notorious discomfort caused by daily violin playing I decided to handcraft more ergonomic chinrests.
I experienced an immediate improvement regarding string contact, shiftings and even bow technique due to the new chinrest design.
